Nothing is as timeless as red lipstick. Swipe some on (carefully, of course) for instant glam and instant vixen. Even if you're not bold enough to make red lips part of your regular routine, you should keep a perfect red option in your beauty bag -- just in case.
My Favorites: Mac's Russian Red, Revlon Matte Lipstick in Really Red, L'Oreal Paris Colour Riche in British Red
Surprisingly, fuchsia lips can be as ladylike as they can be edgy (See both Alexis Bledel and Rhianna in the above photos). This bright lip color instantly perks up your face, and though it's delightfully feminine, it's also decidedly fashion-forward. As long as you go for matte varieties and avoid anything frosted, fuchsia lips are fresh and flirty.
My Favorites: Estee Lauder Pure Color in Fuchsia Fever, Yves Saint Laurent Pure Lipstick in No. 19 Fuchsia, Revlon ColorBurst in Fuchsia
I love dark berry lips. With a pared-down face, blackberry lips look fashionable and chic with a bit of edge that even a girly girl can get away with. This is the perfect rich lip hue for winter.
My Favorites: Revlon Super Lustrous in Blackberry, Milani Color Perfect in Black Cherry, Blackberry by Estee Lauder
My Favorites: Ali by Lola (It's obvious why this is a favorite), Maybelline's Must Have Mauve, Bobbi Brown's Heather Mauve and Party Alice
Tips & Tricks:
To make your lipstick last: First line and fill your lips with lip-liner in a hue that matches your lipstick. Set it with a translucent powder. Then, apply your lipstick straight from the tube. Even out the coverage and application with a lip brush. Blot with a tissue and set with translucent powder. Add a clear gloss if desired.
For bold, rich color: Start with a blank canvas for maximum color by applying concealer or foundation all over your lips. Yes, it will look like you don't have any lips, as it appears that they disappear into your face, but that's the point! This is the perfect foundation for bold color. Now, line and fill your lips with a liner that matches your lipstick color, then apply lipstick straight from the tube. Don't blot! Keep your lipstick handy for touch ups.
For subtle, dewy color: Make sure your lips are moisturized! That's the key. Then line and fill your lips with a lip-liner in a soft, neutral hue. Apply gloss on top. Easy, breezy.
For fuller-looking lips: Love the look of celebrity's big lips? Well, guess what: Most of them are cheaters. They either inject or they fake the size with lip-liner. To maximize the size of your pout, line just outside of your lips. Don't go crazy, but you can certainly get away with lining just past your natural lip line. Then, when applying lip stick, concentrate the color at the center of your lips. Apply normally all over, and then add a few more swipes at the center of your bottom lip and center of your top lip, just at your cupid's bow. This creates the illusion of bigger lips.
